'Sportmen's Act' Could Be Voted On This Week
ACT: Tell Senators Today You Oppose S. 3525
We've received word that the Senate could vote on the reprehensible "Sportsmen's Act of 2012" (S. 3525) this week. The bill absurdly grants trophy hunters the right to import the mounted heads and other pieces of polar bears they shot dead in the Arctic North. In April, we urged you to voice opposition to similar legislation in the House of Representatives. Today we implore you do so the same with S. 3525. We must do all we can to defeat this bill, which sets a dangerous precedent regarding the trophy hunting of imperiled species. Please write to your two U.S. senators today.

NICE! Agency Tips Its Hat Toward Our Sanctuary
Our executive vice president, Adam Roberts, last week was invited to the U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters for a ceremony that was linked, in part, to our Primate Sanctuary's ongoing rescue of more than 100 monkeys from the Wild Animal Orphanage! Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack (pictured) presided over the event, which honored his department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for its animal rescue team. Roberts serves as board president for the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, which plays an integral part in the animal placement process and which has accredited the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary. (Click on Vilsack's picture for a full view, which includes Roberts in the back row, left.)
