GOOD NEWS! Fur-Free Program Has Record Year

The fur industry, imposing enormous suffering and death upon animals, must go. Until then, make sure you shop at stores that are fur free. Our International Fur Free Retailer website lists more than 200 stores and chains in 20 countries that sell only fur-free products. Today starts a global push to promote the cause! Let us know if you can recommend companies that should join our list. They recognize what we've known for years: Compassion is always in fashion!

MORE GOOD NEWS! Gala Aids Tigers, Born Free

Tigers were the big winners Saturday night when more than 150 people showed up in Hollywood for "Stars for Stripes," a red carpet event to support tiger protection in India. Alison Eastwood was the master of ceremonies; the celebrity host committee included Howie Mandel, David Copperfield, Elaine Hendrix, Charlotte Ross, Jill Wagner, Joanna Krupa and Jayde Nicole; and the evening saw guest appearances by stars from "Deal or No Deal," "America's Top Model" and other TV shows. (See photos and watch interviews from the evening.) Co-hosted by Born Free USA and Peace 4 Animals, "Stars for Stripes" netted more than $12,000 for our Satpuda Landscape Tiger Programme, one of our global field projects. Satpuda protects vital tiger habitats in India, mitigates human-tiger conflicts, tackles wildlife crimes and monitors tiger ranging activity. RESCUE! In Ethiopia, from Darkness to Light

Our man in Ethiopia, Stephen Brend, received word recently that a small monkey needed to be rescued. Turns out that the young vervet had been kept for 20 days in a tiny metal cage with a restraining rope around his neck, in the company of excitable caged dogs. He was doomed to soon be euthanized. Not on our watch! The vervet — now named Pasteur — was freed from his cage and taken to our sanctuary in Ethiopia, where he was given a health check, nutritious meal and the promise of a humane life. Pasteur's future is suddenly bright indeed. Please consider helping him and the center's other residents by making a contribution today.
