Vote for Born Free USA at The Body Shop!

Dear Friend,

The Body Shop, with more than 2,500 stores in more than 55 countries, is deeply committed to making our world a better place. The cosmetics company uses sustainably harvested, organic ingredients when possible, packages its products in recycled materials, and among other community work raises money for women victimized by domestic violence and promotes HIV and AIDS awareness.

The Body Shop Foundation has helped us directly by making a generous donation to the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary so that we could build a transitional enclosure for rescued primates. And now it wants to help more, by pitting us against two other organizations — one promoting human rights, the other environmental protection — in an in-store and online popularity vote. Through Monday, November 1st, Body Shop customers in both the United States and Canada can cast their ballots for whichever organization they want to receive the grand prize of $10,000. No purchase is necessary. If we win in both countries, that means a total of $20,000 for Born Free. There's money for second and third place, too, but we really want the top prize!

At Born Free USA, we are grateful for The Body Shop Foundation's support and we salute The Body Shop's ongoing contribution to animal protection.

"We have never, and will never, test our cosmetic products on animals," the company reports on its website. "We also don't commission others to do it for us. In fact, we campaigned for years to bring about a ban on testing cosmetics on animals. We are among the few companies to comply with the stringent requirements of the internationally recognized Humane Cosmetics Standard. We also ensure all our products are suitable for vegetarians and seek out alternative sources of ingredients that do not contribute to the destruction of habitat of endangered animals, or cause animal suffering. We just think it's what everyone should do."

The money we receive from The Body Shop vote will go a long way toward helping Born Free USA successfully prosecute our vital animal welfare and wildlife conservation campaigns. A win in this "fall election" would be a big victory for the animals.

Can we count on your vote?

For the animals,
