Tell Your Representative to Co-Sponsor H.R. 4306
Born Free USA again is spearheading the Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 4306) in the U.S. House of Representatives to protect nonhuman primates from the exotic "pet" trade. Please ask your representative to co-sponsor the bill today.
Sponsored by U.S. Reps. Michael Fitzpatrick, R-PA, and Earl Blumenauer, D-OR, and introduced on March 29, H.R. 4306 complements the Senate bill we helped introduce last summer and prohibits interstate commerce in monkeys, apes and other primates in the exotic "pet" trade. Similar legislation passed the House with overwhelming support in 2009.
Born Free USA knows the cruel effects of the primate trade firsthand. Many of our Primate Sanctuary residents were rescued from abusive situations in which they were forced into captivity as someone's "pet." As documented by Born Free USA's Exotic Animal Incidents Database, numerous incidents involving nonhuman primate escapes and injuries to people — including small children — have occurred nationwide in recent years. When exotic animals are confined in a backyard or home, serious injury or death can occur at any time.
Please contact your U.S. representative today and help us pass the Captive Primate Safety Act.
For the animals,
P.S. Please help the monkeys at Born Free USA's Primate Sanctuary keep their cool — and be well-fed — by making a contribution today.
